openni garbbor (No devices connected.)

sara
Hi ,

I've connected the kinect sensor to my pc . I want to run the the opnni grabbor example
http://pointclouds.org/documentation/tutorials/openni_grabber.php#openni-grabber

although my sensor is truly connected and is turned on , the program can not run and there is this error :

erminate called after throwing an instance of 'pcl::IOException'
  what():  void pcl::OpenNIGrabber::setupDevice(const string&, const pcl::OpenNIGrabber::Mode&, const pcl::OpenNIGrabber::Mode&) in /home/sara/applications/pcl-master/io/src/openni_grabber.cpp @ 342 : No devices connected.

Thnaks .

Hi Sara,

You probably didn't install the OpenNI driver.

Cheers,

This post was updated on .
Hi ,

I tried to solve the problem by installing the libfreenect. now libfreenect is installed and can display depth images with
./glview
but the openni2 examples in bin folder can not be run still.
sara@sara:~/applications/OpenNI-Linux-x64-2.2/Samples/Bin$ ls
a                     libOpenNI2.so       org.openni.jar
b                     MultiDepthViewer    org.openni.Samples.SimpleViewer
ClosestPointViewer    MultipleStreamRead  org.openni.Samples.SimpleViewer.jar
EventBasedRead        MWClosestPointApp   SimpleRead
libMWClosestPoint.so  OpenNI2             SimpleViewer
libOpenNI2.jni.so     OpenNI.ini
 the error for openni_grabbor is stiil exist and the same as before .

I am using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS . Do you think this problem relate to my version of Ubuntu ?
for example if I use ubuntu 13.04 can I work with openni2 and kinect sensor with PCL ?

Thanks
Sarah

PCL does not support Freenect.

We don't support OpenNI2 at the moment as well.

Please try the PPA linked on the download site, it should work.

Re: openni garbbor (No devices connected.)

I'm having a similar issue with the kinect sensor and the openNI-grabber example, I'm also using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Once I run the example, the program says: No Deviced Connected.
I installed from the pointcloud.org page using the PPA files, and the installation showed no errors. If i run dpkg -l openni-dev ps-engine i get:

+++-==============-==============-============================================
ii  openni-dev     1.3.2.1-4+prec OpenNI Framework - libraries
ii  ps-engine      5.0.3.3-3+prec ps-engine for OpenNI Framework - libraries

Finally, I checked under usb devices connected and I can see both Kinect camera and Audio.

I appreciate if you could help me with this.
