RSD & GRSD: Three questions

Friedrich Politz
This post was updated on .
Hi everyone,

just a quick question: When comparing two point clouds with RSD features - are the radii as a property considered? Or just the distance/angle histograms?

And vice versa: When comparing two point clouds with GRSD features: Are the individual histograms considered or just the radii of every (voxel) leaf? From what I got by reading the paper it looks like GRSD only uses the radius classes to compute histograms.

Last one: What is the ideal use case for RSD / GRSD? Does it exist?
Cheers,
Fred

Re: RSD & GRSD: Three questions

Hi Jochen,

I am currently writing on a Wiki article that explains all feature algorithms in detail for beginners. Unfortunately this is quite time consuming without anyone helping to extend it (not to mention that the server seems to have magically wiped nearly everything that I contributed friday afternoon).

PCL's source code documentation (atm I can only speak for the feature estimation algorithms) is far away from state of the art software documentation standards. Fortunately I am in the good position to have a IEEE and Springerlink subscription available. Still I don't know how other people will understand the source without these subscriptions available (big thumbs up for all the free papers at WillowGarage). I am currently re-reading all papers to compile a highlevel overview and a ranking which I will later commit as rst documents (like it was done with PFH).

But still there are way too many lines of poorly documented code and I find it a bit disappointing that no one is able to answer these small questions. However I will refrain from bumping threads in the future and will continue working on the other features in the meantime until these questions here are solved :)

Cheers,
Fred

I believe Zoltan is in charge of those features (RSD, GRSD) so he might be able to answer the question.

Best,
Radu.

Hey,

I was wondering whether you have any new information about GRSD since I would like to use it for object classification and all I have so far is a little paragraph from a paper from this site. I would really appreciate any news on this.

Kind regards.

Unfortunately not. But maybe a look into the source code will do the trick. Didn't have the time for that until now.
