Lytro lightfield camera

koen buys-2
Hi,

I've read in an article this week (from IEEE magazine) that Lytro
would output a depth image as well from their lightfield cameras. They
are preparing a software upgrade to do so.
Does anybody have contacts with them and has more insights on when
this can be expected?
Does anybody have experience with (and drivers for?) the Raytrix camera's?

Best regards,

Koen

I have heard about the Lytro cameras, I wasn't aware that the technology they are using enables 3D information. Do you think there is an online version of the article? I have met someone that has used a Lytro before, I remember they said the weren't impressed, but I didn't get any more details than that. Has anyone here used one?

As for Raytrix, this is the first time I've heard of them. But I recognize some of the images they have on their website are also on Photon-x's website (http://www.photon-x.com/) so I'm guessing they are using their technology.

Here is a talk from Photon-x's founder explaining the technology a little (there is much to be desired) http://techchannel.att.com/play-video.cfm/2011/5/12/Conference-TV-SMPTE-3D---Spatial-Phase-Imaging
There are also some patents out there from them, but they were all over my head.
I'd also be interested to know if anyone has used any thing with this technology as well.

This might be of interest: Raytrix's GTC 2012 presentation
(http://www.gputechconf.com/gtcnew/on-demand-gtc.php?sessionTopic=&searchByKeyword=raytrix&submit=&select=+&sessionEvent=&sessionYear=&sessionFormat)

Cheers,
Radu.
