Huge hexagon in viewer

dwaipayansinha
Hello,

I am using PCL trunk revision 5905. I am using the simple openni viewer for viewing and saving kinect data. The problem is, everytime it opens with a huge hexagon in centre.

Later I found that this hexagon is a cross section of the depth axis. This was not there in PCL 1.5 installed from apt-get.

The problem still exits in revision 5931.

The OpenNI Viewer adds a coordinate axis represented by "cylinders of really low resolution" :) (hexagon in this case).
The viewer is a technology demonstrator and shouldn't be used for serious data I/O operations, as you can always
copy&paste some of the code and write your own.

We could optionally also add a command line parameter to disable it.

Cheers,
Radu.

This post was updated on .
A function call and a command line option can be added to disable the axes. Anyway, any suggestion what I can use other than the viewer to avoid this problem?

This is the viewer from PCL 1.5. The axes are there. But the viewpoint is not inside the huge cross section as in the one at PCL trunk. My suggestion is to reduce the axis size.

If you rotate the view or zoom out the view, that goes away.  It's just where the camera starts.

I know that. That's what I am doing right now. But I want to use the kinect later for real time data capturing and the huge hexagon does not help in anyway.

Wait - are you going to do screen captures, or how will you save the data to disk? Using PCL I/O functions the "hexagon"
will not be saved anyway. It's merely there for visualization purposes, and should be trivial to comment out that line
or write your own tool that does this. I don't recommend using openni_viewer for data capture by any means.

Cheers,
Radu.

What is a recommended way to save from Kinect other than OpenNI viewer? I am still learning PCL, so I think you won't mind advising.

openni_grab_frame is much better.

Cheers,
Radu.
