How to get the y coordinate(depth) if I have an RGB image and a point on it?

Basically I want to detect some edges in an image that are at a particular
height. I am able to get all the edges using OpenCV from the RGB image. Now,
need to filter out those based on height. I would need to know the base
height (or depth) to be able to detect. So, for the trial, if I have a
particular edge, which is say a Hough line, how do I find the depth of that
line using PCL.
using cloud.point[ind].x , etc I can get the values, but how to do the
reverse. Any help/hint is appreciated. Thank you.
EDit: I can go through the whole point cloud and select the points with particular x,z values. Would there be any class or function that I get directly use?
